Marilu Henner Bio

Mary Lucy Denise Henner, born April 6, 1952 was an American producer and actress. After beginning her career in the musical Grease, Henner made her screen debut in the comedy-drama movie Between the Lines in 1977. In 1977, she was cast as Elaine O'Connor Nardo on the sitcom on ABC/NBC Taxi. She earned five Golden Globe Award nominations. In the following years, she had co-starring roles in films like Hammett (1982), The Man Who Loved Women (1983), Cannonball Run II (1984) and Johnny Dangerously (1984), Rustlers' Rhapsody (1985), Ladykillers (1988), L.A. Story (1991), and the film Noises Off (1992). Her return to television was with a a starring role in the CBS sitcom Evening Shade (1990-1994), and later played leading parts in a variety of made-for-television films. Henner is who was a University of Chicago student from Hyde Park, Chicago, originated the role of Marty in the 1971 Kingston Mines production of Grease. When the production was discovered and relocated to Broadway She was subsequently requested to play the character again; however, she chose to instead portray "Marty" as part of the national touring company alongside John Travolta, who played "Doody". Henner also has Broadway credits including Over Here! with Travolta and a revival of Pal Joey. Social Security was also renewed. The Tale of the Allergist's Wife is another Broadway credit. She made her first movie appearance in 1977's sleeper-hit Between the Lines. It starred then-unknowns John Heard, Lindsay Crouse and Jill Eikenberry. She was a co-star with Richard Gere in 1978's Bloodbrothers.
