Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio
Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25 1994 she is an American retired artistic gymnast. She has also been two-time Olympian. She was captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams, who were winners in their respective team competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London she took home gold medals in floor and team events, as well as the bronze medal for the balance beam, which made her the most recognized American gymnast at the Games. She was awarded a gold team medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans to have back-to-back gold medals in this event. Raisman also took home silver medals in the individual all-around as well as the floor exercise. Raisman also won silver medals for the individual all around and for floor exercise. She has also been an Olympic champion twice on the floor exercise (2012 and 2015) she was the 2012 champion of the national team on the balance beam, and five times a medallist in the all-around competition at the national championships (silver in 2016, bronze in 2011, 2012, and in 2015, bronze in 2010, 2011, and). In 2013, she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on the 25th of May, 1994 in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), who was a former gymnast at high school, and Rick Raisman. She has three younger sisters: Madison, Chloe, & Brett. Raisman, who is Jewish, has stated that she is extremely proud in her ability to represent the United States of America, but as well as the Jewish community around the world. Raisman started gymnastics at 18 months. She attributes her love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's team that won the gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. The athlete trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8. She then moved to Brestyan’s American Gymnastics Club, where she was coached by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman graduated Needham High School in 2012. She finished her senior year on the internet while training for the Olympics.
