Amy Carlson
Amy Carlson was born in Glen Ellyn in
Illinois and spent her childhood in Chicago. But at the time Amy was in junior
high, she and her family also resided in the Middle East where her parents, Bob
and Barb, taught at the American School. Amy has three siblings: sisters Betsy
and Lori and brother Joe. Amy has travelled all over Europe with her family as
well as independently. They were both teachers and were able to travel and camp
together each summer as a result of this. They've camped across every state
with the exception of Alaska. Amy was also in Rwanda after the war in 1994 to
aid in relief efforts. Amy was a talented actor in school plays and also won
writing contests. She was an athlete of great potential in high school who
participated in the first ever 3200-meter relay in Illinois girls track. After
an injury, she was able to return to theater and perform a variety of roles in
plays, including Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July" and Wallace Shawn's
film "Aunt Dan and Lemon". Amy was a student at Knox College in
Galesburg, Illinois, where she graduated with a cum laude, a B.A. East Asian
history, with an emphasis on Theater. After graduation, she moved to Chicago
where she pursued studies in Improv at the Improv Olympics as well as acting at
The Actor's Center. A job as a contract actress on the now defunct soap show
Another World (1964) moved her to NYC soon after graduation. She was nominated
for the "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series"
category for Daytime Emmy Award. Her most memorable performances were of strong
women as Alex Taylor (1999), Maggie Pistone (2000), Katie Owen (2003), and
Linda Reagan (2003). Carlson lives in New York City together with Syd Butler
(bassist of Les Savy Fav), and she is the co-owner of Frenchkiss Records. Amy
is still working in film and writing.
