Anita Ekberg

 

Kerstin Aita Marianne (Swedish pronunciation (listen), 29/09/1931 - 11/01/2015) was a Swedish actress well-known for her stunning beauty and striking silhouette. Her role as Sylvia in Federico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita (1960) earned her fame. Ekberg worked primarily in Italy and became a permanent resident in 1964.Anita Ekberg was born on 29 September 1931 in (Sweden) and was the sixth child of eight. Anita worked as fashion model throughout her teenage years. Ekberg upon the request of her mother in 1950 was a contestant in Miss Malmo. This led to her being selected for the Miss Sweden contest which she won. Even though she spoke very little English, Ekberg went to the United States to compete in the Miss Universe 1951 title. This was an not an official pageant at the time. The pageant became officially recognized in 1952. Ekberg was not the Miss Universe winner, but she was among six finalist. She did , however, earn a contract with Universal Studios as a starlet. Ekberg was a Universal starlet where she was taught acting, dancing, and drama. She appeared briefly in The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello go to Mars (1953), Take Me to Town (1953) as well as The Golden Blade (53).
