Watts was born 28 September 1968. After her family relocated to Australia in
the early 1980s, Watts made her film debut there in For Love Alone (1986). She
then appeared in three television shows: Hey Dad.. (1990) The Brides of
Christ(91) as well as Home and Away (91), and Flirting (1991). After having
moved to the United States, Watts initially was a struggle as an actress
performing in small-scale movies until she was a part of David Lynch's
psychological thriller Mulholland Drive in 2001 as an aspiring actress. She
rose to international fame with this role. Watts played the part of a depressed
journalist in The Ring, a horror film that was remade. For her portrayal of a
grieving mother in the Alejandro film 21 Grams, she was nominated for the
Academy Award for Best Actress. Her star power was growing when she was
featured in I Heart Huckabees (2004). King Kong (2006), Eastern Promises
((2007)) and The International (2009). Watts was also nominated for the Academy
Award as Best Actress for her role in The Impossible (2012). In the decade of
2010, Watts played in films like Birdman (2014) St. Vincent (2014) St. Vincent
(2015), While We're Young (2016), The Glass Castle (2017) and Luce (2018).
Watts was also a mainstay in blockbuster films, starring in Divergent
(2015)-2016.
